The Moment After We Fall: Choosing to Be Enough
Can I love and accept myself even more?
Can I love myself right after I fail?
Right after I fail at my own expectations, or somebody else’s?
Right then and there.
Can I forgive myself and love myself immediately?
Because perhaps making the shift in that exact moment is what creates the real change.
I look around and see so many people being incredibly harsh with themselves.
Critical.
Demanding.
Unforgiving.
Self-judging.
No matter what they do, it never seems to be enough.
Sometimes there is a boss, a parent, a partner, or another voice in our lives that keeps reinforcing that message. There is always something to fix. Something to improve. Something we should have done better.
And it is okay to have standards. It is okay to want things done well. It is okay to ask a lot of ourselves.
But when doing better becomes an excuse to beat ourselves down, I do not want to play that game.
I do not want to participate in this disguised game of hate.
Who is going to punish me next?
Who am I going to punish next with my vision of how things ought to be?
Sometimes, if we pause long enough, we can see the hamster wheel.
And in that moment, we can step off.
We can come back to ourselves and ask:
Do I believe this person who takes every opportunity to criticize me?
Who never seems to see my effort, my progress, or even my wins?
Has their message, “No matter what you do, it is never enough”, started to become my own message to myself?
🦭 Selkie says: “Let the harsh voice speak, then choose to answer with love.” 🦭
Maybe I did this much more when I was younger. Maybe I have grown in my self-worth. And maybe there is still a small part of me who is furious about not being enough.
Why can’t I be better?
Why can’t I have it all together?
I should know better.
I should have gotten it right.
Sometimes the unfair person in front of us reveals something we have been tucking away inside ourselves for a very long time.
I can feel her trapped in my tissues. Pulling on my fascia. Pinching my nerves. Gnawing at my bones. Pushing against my joints.
I think she wants out.
I think it is time to let her out.
Enough is enough.
I am enough.
🦭 “You don’t have to earn your love by getting everything right.” 🦭🦭
No matter what the world around me shows me about all the ways I could be better, what if I could stand alone in my enoughness?
Every time someone, or something inside me, says:
You are not enough.
You are messing up.
You will never get it right.
You are a failure.
You lost.
What if I answered:
I am still here.
I am still worthy.
I am still lovable.
🦭 “A mistake is a moment, not a measure of your worth.” 🦭🦭
The mean boss. The distant mother. The abusive father. The toxic boyfriend. The controlling business partner. Their voices can live inside the body long after the moment has passed.
Not enough.
Not enough.
Not enough.
Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is leave an environment that continually diminishes us. Then we can begin rebuilding trust in ourselves in kinder places.
But before any big action, perhaps there is an even bigger one.
A pause.
A warm conversation with the self.
I am enough, right here, right now.
Even in this mistake.
Even in this failure.
Even when somebody else is disappointed in me.
I am worthy.
I matter.
My voice matters.
I deserve love and kindness.
🦭 “When you fail, come closer to yourself, not further away.” 🦭🦭
This does not mean we have no boundaries. It does not excuse unkindness or unprofessional behavior. It simply means I stop giving my power away.
Maybe I can even say thank you.
Thank you for showing me the places where I am still not loving myself.
Thank you for showing me where I am still unforgiving.
I will love myself even harder now. I will be kinder to myself. I will become more careful about the thoughts I put into my own head.
🦭 “You are still enough, even while you’re learning.” 🦭🦭
I do not have to run away from you to be inside myself.
I can forgive your ways, because I know what it is like to feel lonely, misunderstood, pushed aside, or not good enough.
And perhaps my love for myself can become so big that it illuminates your side of the street too.
I let go.
I am not against you.
I am with love.
The door is open for you too.
Now, now, now, now, now, now, now, now....
is the moment to love yourself
not later when you get it all right.

🦭 Selkie says: Play with with meThe YES! I’m Still Enough Challenge!🦭🦭
Alright Selkie people, shall we play a game for a whole month?
Every time something goes wrong and we notice ourselves slipping into an old protection pattern, running away, fighting back, freezing, pleasing, hiding, we throw our hands in the air, make a little fist and shout, ‘YES!’
Maybe we jump and burst into laughter. Maybe we wiggle. Maybe we do the world’s tiniest victory dance. Then we take a breath and move on to the next right action.
Let’s see whether our nervous systems can learn a new level of safety around making mistakes, or being wronged. Because no matter what, we are enough. We are safe to be here. Life is for us, and it is supposed to be fun.
🦭 ‘Falling and rising are equally fun when there’s no judgement.’ 🦭🦭
When you’re ready to explore this magic more deeply, come join me inside the Selkie Sanctuary. It’s a space for women who are ready to reconnect with their rhythm, release old stories, and rise through sound, movement, and creative ritual.
🦭 "The tide is turning, love, come swim with it!" 🦭🦭🦭
